Supporting Refugee and Migrant Students through Career Development
Refugees, migrants and people seeking asylum have poor employment outcomes, and are overrepresented in un/der/employment figures in Australia.
Survival work is the priority, meaning careers advising is not always made available to new arrivals unless they interact with an educational institution.
Attendance to this CoP meeting is free.
Co-hosted by Refugee Education Australia, CareerSeekers, and CICA, this CoP aims to:
- Share experiences, strategies, and good practices for supporting people who have experienced forced migration
- Address the employment barriers that leave refugees and asylum seekers overrepresented in un/der/employment figures
- Expand access to careers advising for new arrivals beyond educational institution touchpoints
- Build a collaborative network of practitioners across education and settlement sectors
